
JIAM 2016 – Japan International Apparel Machinery & Textile Industry Trade Show – commenced to an incredible response on April 6, 2016 at INTEX Osaka, Japan. Apart from several technology launches, the key feature of the show is its thrust on delivering to the industry the directions for future through presentations. Topics discussed include “The innovative way of making clothes taught by a Contemporary Master Craftsman – Proposing the use of gluing and welding technologies” by Susumu Inarida – a specially-appointed committee member in the Japan Modelist Association – who has been selected as one of the 150 appointees of Contemporary Master Craftsman selected by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.
Besides this, there were discussions on “A proposal project on monozukuri (manufacturing) from Japan – The future of Made-in-Japan products desired by global customers” which was a panel discussion by five Japanese companies in the sewing manufacturing industry and “J∞Quality – Current and future situation” by Shigeki Kondo, Chairman of the Japan Apparel Technology and Research Association. Discussions on “Growth strategy for the manufacturing industry using robots and IoT as the key solution” by Kiyoshi Sawaki, Director of Industrial Machinery Division Manufacturing Industrial Bureau in The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, also interested visitors.

The focus on Industry 4.0 for the apparel industry and the emerging hubs of apparel production – Ethiopia persisted through “Germany’s Industrie 4.0 – Challenges and Opportunities for Industry: Innovation for the Textile and Apparel Business” by Georg K. Löer, President of NRW Japan K.K. Economic Development Agency of the German State of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and “Latest market trends of the sewing industry in Ethiopia and other east African countries” by Kazunori Sakae, Specialist at JASMA.
JIAM Visitors were seen taking a close look at the presentations to learn the trends and gain inspiration for new business opportunities. The show continued to gather crowd on the second day as well despite bad weather conditions. So far it has witnessed over 3,500 visitors and the number is expected to up as the show is still on.
