Plush surfaces, shearling-look finishes and fur trims dominate the season’s outerwear, across womenswear and menswear alike.
Texture is one of the defining themes of the Fall/Winter 2026 runways. Louise Trotter’s second Bottega Veneta collection offered fur, pile, shearling and fringe, while Louis Vuitton’s runway was dominated by shearling and fur. At Diotima, Rachel Scott used a three-dimensional organza intarsia technique that reads close to shearling.
After a vintage fur revival, faux fur has returned to the runway in a significant way. Gucci showed belted fur coats, Chanel’s Matthieu Blazy offered multicoloured versions, Schiaparelli added fur trousers, and Valentino showed coats that looked like heirloom pieces. Burberry showed tartan coats trimmed in fur, in navy and garnet.
Silhouettes are changing too. Fur coats are giving way to fur jackets cropped above the knee, seen at Saint Laurent, Valentino, Khaite and Bottega Veneta. Trims are a more wearable entry point. Faux-fur collars appeared at Gabriela Hearst, Balmain, Kim Shui and Ferragamo. Fur trims were also prominent at Sandy Liang and Christian Cowan.
Milan pushed volume. Emporio Armani showed egg-shaped coats, and furry and distressed textures ran through the Italian shows. Industry commentary notes that faux fur is a key trend for the season and that brands are now imitating it with shearling, alpaca and mohair.
The shift is just as visible in menswear. Faux fur appeared on oversized coats, generous collars and statement pieces at the Fall/Winter 2026-27 men’s shows. Willy Chavarria showed a faux leopard-fur piece and Dsquared2 an overcoat. KidSuper opened with a fur overcoat with a whimsical lining, and Louis Vuitton showed a fur quarter-zip. Diesel sent out multicoloured patchwork jackets with neon accents.
Indian designers are part of the conversation. Dhruv Kapoor’s collection, themed around transit and the traveller, featured shaggy ushankas and bonded leather jackets, with fur stoles carried as a travel accessory.
At the designer end of the market, fur is being worked into occasion and Indian-wear dressing. Ritu Kumar offers an Ethnic Motifs Embroidered Faux Fur Front Open Overcoat, available through Myntra. Dusala’s Aurora Sequin Vegan Fur Cape, also sold through Ensemble, pairs hand-embellished sequins with a vegan fur base and sits in the same occasion-led space.
Homegrown contemporary labels are translating the look into shrugs, capes and jackets. Amoshi’s Faux Mink Fur Shrug is a free-size piece with top-stitch texture detail and an adjustable length. The brand suggests wearing it over trousers or over Indian wear, and says slight irregularities in the fur are deliberate, to look more authentic. Inweave lists a Black Long Faux Fur Cape and a Burgundy Rabbit Fur Cape, while Rage offers a Faux Fur Trim Cape in ecru. Mabish by Sonal Jain carries faux fur coats, jackets and shrugs through Nykaa Fashion, and Blush by TSD and Mir are among the indie labels working in faux fur jackets and furry coats.
International labels with Indian retail presence are covering the everyday and mid-market end. Vero Moda’s Faux Fur Coat is a 100% polyester piece with a wide Peter Pan collar and a concealed snap-button closure. ONLY’s Brown Faux Fur Jacket uses a soft brushed knit, with hidden press-studs and a jersey lining. Bershka offers a Fitted Fur Jacket with Padded Shoulders, Next lists a Funnel Neck Faux Fur Animal Print Jacket on Myntra, and Crepdog Crew stocks Alo’s Opulent Faux Fur Cropped Jacket in Winter Frost.
For Indian brands, the opportunity lies in trims, collars, capes and cropped jackets on winter-weight, plush-finish fabrics. The range of products already on sale, from embroidered overcoats to cropped jackets, shows that the category can stretch across occasion, Indian-wear and everyday dressing. Reformation’s Matilda Faux Fur Trim Jacket already carries the season’s mood to a more accessible shelf. Menswear remains the thinner side of the Indian offer, which leaves room for brands to build on the faux-fur collars and oversized coats seen on the men’s runways.
