Swiss hygiene company Livinguard Technologies – which also has operations in India, USA, Germany, Singapore, Japan and South Africa – has developed a first-of-its-kind face masks that can directly inactivate bacteria and viruses, including 99.9 per cent of novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the company announced in a virtual press release.
Livinguard launched the new face masks in India on 17 June.
The globally patented technology used in the mask – that helps it decrease extremely high amounts of SARS-CoV-2 particles (by over 99.9 per cent, as mentioned above) – was invented by Sanjeev Swamy, Founder and CEO of the company.
Made from cotton, the masks are reusable and can be worn hundreds of times.
Sanjeev commented that the World Health Organisation has given an estimated number of 89 million medical masks that will be required every month throughout the fight against the pandemic.
“Our mission is to provide hygiene suited for the modern world, hence the reason that we chose to conduct our tests at the FU (Free University) Berlin, renowned for their highest standards; and we are honoured to be able to introduce Livinguard masks in India, ”Sanjeev added.
As mentioned by scientist, Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar, this revolutionary invention that deactivates coronavirus on contact with the mask is a “global game changer.”
