Leading fashion retailer Myntra is charging a ‘platform handling fee’ of Rs. 49-149 from buyers purchasing products of lower values.
Sources have informed that the company has taken this step in order to shore up its finances and reduce losses with the objective to gain profitability.
Reportedly, Myntra opted for this after realising that they have bottom-line pressure. The firm started levying the fee soon after the countrywide lockdown began easing in June this year.
So, buyers are charged the delivery fee if their orders are of lower values, and in case the order size turns out to be above a certain purchase value, the levy is waived.
So far as Myntra’s stance on the same is concerned, the company maintained that the fee is charged for an ‘amalgamation of services’ that the brand provides to its customers to deliver its overall fashion shopping experiences on its website and on the app.
“This fee is clearly delineated during check-out, offering full clarity to the customer about the total transaction value,” the company spokesperson replied to an e-mail.
The move has, however, irked a number of consumers who vent out their anger on social media.
It must be noted here that almost every e-commerce website including Amazon, Flipkart and Ajio charges delivery fees on lower value of purchases.
