Japanese manufacturer Shima Seiki is among the leaders in computerized flat knitting machine technology. Since its pioneering introduction of Whole Garment knitting technology in 1995, Shima Seiki has dedicated itself to the advancement of this new form of knitting, with over 200 patents realized in its development. The company has now introduced its new MACH2SIG computerized intarsia shaped knitting machine with improved design system software for increased productivity.
MACH2SIG is at the cutting edge of Shima Seiki flat knitting machine technology. The maximum knitting speed of the machine is 1.4 metre/sec and the Rapid Response R2CARRIAGE achieves quicker carriage returns after each course for higher efficiency. With the number of yarns carriers increased from 32 to 40, the machine is more flexible during knitting and has an increased range of possible intarsia patterns.
Optional i-DSCS+DTC, Digital Stitch Control System with Intelligence and Dynamic Tension Control, improves on Shima Seiki’s DSCS technology with variable electronic control of yarn tension thereby permitting high-quality and consistency during high-speed knitting while reducing the chance of yarn breaks.
Other new features include a yarn gripper and cutter system equipped with a new lint remover for reduced maintenance; a USB interface positioned directly below the control monitor for improved access in data exchange; the network connector has been repositioned to improve access for factory data management with Shima Network Solutions; and improved space efficiency realized by integrating the fabric collection tray within the machine frame.
The most useful feature of the machine is its WideGauge capability that permits a variety of gauges to be knit on a single machine. The machine is also equipped with new automatic yarn carrier setting software SDS-ONE apparel design system that dramatically improves set-up efficiency and diminishes lead times. Depending on the intarsia pattern, what used to take hours or days to programme can now be performed in minutes or even seconds.
Shima Seiki has its presence in India through Delhi-based Janaksons International. Talking about new MACH2SIG, Ashwini Behl, Director, Janaksons explains, “Quicker setup, improved efficiency and higher productivity of MACH2SIG can shorten lead times and production times for achieving quicker turnaround of existing products. More importantly however is its dramatically expanded range of design, colour and patterns that permits the designer to further explore unprecedented areas in the world of intarsia knitting, adding to consumer appeal of knitwear as a fashion source and thus contributing to profitability for SHIMA SEIKI customers.”
Shima Seiki began shipment of MACH2SIG in January 2010 and has been exhibiting the machine at private show circuits in various markets worldwide.
