Starting today, 20th September, Amazon India is discontinuing the acceptance of Rs. 2000 currency notes for Cash on Delivery or Cashloads, following the last day of collection on 19th September 2023. This decision aligns with the Reserve Bank of India’s directive from 19th May to phase out Rs. 2000 banknotes. The option to deposit or exchange Rs. 2000 banknotes remains available until 30th September 2023.
Amazon has clarified through FAQs on its website that couriers will not accept Rs. 2000 notes for deliveries, even if attempted by customers post the ban. However, Pay on Delivery orders can be paid using Amazon UPI Scan & Pay, or the Amazon SMS Pay link. In case a third-party courier is used for delivery, their policies regarding the acceptance of Rs. 2000 currency notes will supersede Amazon’s.
Recent reserve bank data shows that approximately 87 per cent of Rs. 2000 banknotes returned from circulation were in the form of deposits, while the remaining 13 per cent have been swapped for banknotes in other denominations.
