US-based e-retailer Amazon’s Indian subsidiary, which is committed to make e-commerce a part of everyday life, has strengthened its delivery network in north-eastern states of the country.
The expansion will now allow customers residing in this region to get faster delivery of their orders placed on Amazon. Post-expansion every north-east state will get Amazon’s own delivery network. This was stated by Amazon India’s Vice President, Customer Fulfillment, Akhil Saxena.
The e-retailer currently operates its own delivery network in Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya. A separate (third-party) delivery network to serve customers from Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Sikkim has now been set up by Amazon.
A total of 20 Service Partner nodes will now work for Amazon to strengthen last mile delivery capability across the eight north-eastern states.
Amazon is aimed to expand further into Tier III and IV locations in India with its own delivery services via the Service Partner Programme. Notably, the e-retailer has reported 80 per cent increase in its seller base to 2.7 lakh and the majority (50 per cent) of the merchants are from Tier II cities and beyond in 2017.
It has been investing in India heavily in order to capture the major market share and has expanded the network of its Fulfilment Centres as well (FCs) to 62 in 13 states across the country which offers a total of around 16 million cubic feet space for storage.
The retailer is increasing the number of its fulfilment centres (FCs) and delivery centres in India in view of the increasing consumer demand. The opening of the fulfilment centres across the country is in line with the company’s objective of increasing its infrastructural impression in India.
