The first Centre of Excellence (COE) of the Apparel, Made-ups & Home Furnishing Sector Skill Council (AMHSSC) been opened in Kandivali, Mumbai, marking a noteworthy milestone.
The centre, which was officially opened by India’s Minister of Commerce & Industry, Piyush Goyal, marks a significant advancement in the country’s attempts to provide workforce training and industry-driven skill development in the clothing and home furnishings industries.
Goyal gave credit to AMHSSC Chairman Dr. A. Sakthivel for his vision and hard work in building a top-notch infrastructure for skill development, reskilling, and upskilling. He praised AMHSSC’s initiative in establishing the COE in a timely manner, attributing this to Dr. Sakthivel’s leadership and cooperative attitude with foreign partners.
The Kandivali COE, created with the cooperation of ITEES Singapore, stands out as a pioneering institution that incorporates global standards into India’s skilling ecosystem. This COE, in contrast to earlier centres established separately by AMHSSC, will offer courses created in partnership with ITEES Singapore, a global leader in technical education. The objective is to bring India’s clothing training programs into line with the finest international standards, hence raising industry productivity and quality.
Specialised courses like “Luxury Fashion Consultant,” “Fashion Retail Merchandising,” and “Sourcing Specialist,” which were created to meet the changing demands of the ready-made clothing industry, are among the distinctive offerings of the COE. These courses were originally offered in India.
For aspiring young, nano, and small business owners who want to start their own fashion companies, a course on Fashion Entrepreneurship has also been introduced.
Dr. Sakthivel acknowledged that AMHSSC had trained more than 22 lakh people nationwide and appreciated Goyal for his continued support. “Our goal is to continue building a workforce that not only meets industry needs but also leads the industry forward with innovation and excellence,” he stated.
