The apparel sales grew by 9 per cent in February 2022 compared to February 2020. This is even higher compared to other product categories like furniture & furnishing, beauty, wellness & personal care, sports goods and jewellery.
While comparing February 2022 with February 2021, growth was 21 per cent. This is the second-highest growth after consumer durables and electronics categories.
Retailers Association of India (RAI)’s Business Survey of February 2022 shows these enthusiastic developments of the Indian apparel retail market.
RAI insisted that apparels and footwear categories have indicated double-digit growth (Y-O-Y) with a steady decline in the rate of Covid-19 cases.
In overall retail, there was a growth of 6 per cent in February 2022 compared to February 2020 and 10 per cent in February 2022 compared to February 2021.
Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI, said, “While the data shows that retail businesses are inching towards normalcy, we need to consider that the growth shown is not adjusted to inflation and the possibility is that some categories are yet to get back quantitative growth.”
