Bata India Limited has expanded the responsibilities of Varun Bansal, appointing him as Head of IT – India and Asia-Pacific (APAC), in a move aimed at strengthening the company’s technology leadership across the region.
In his expanded role, Bansal will oversee technology strategy and operations across India and the wider APAC region, supporting Bata’s retail, manufacturing, supply chain, warehousing and digital commerce functions across multiple markets.
As Regional Chief Information Officer (CIO) for India and APAC, Bansal will be responsible for driving digital transformation initiatives, operational resilience, cybersecurity, enterprise applications, technology infrastructure, cloud operations, governance, audits, vendor management and technology investments. His remit covers more than 3,500 stores, 18 warehouses and distribution centres, six manufacturing facilities and technology teams across India and key APAC markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China.
Prior to assuming his expanded regional responsibilities, Bansal served as Vice President and Head of IT at Bata India. During his tenure, he played a significant role in modernising the company’s technology platforms, enhancing operational capabilities and supporting Bata’s broader retail and digital transformation agenda. His efforts focused on developing scalable technology ecosystems to support the company’s growing omnichannel and business operations.
