Two of the largest quick commerce platforms–Zomato-owned Blinkit and Mumbai-based upstart Zepto–are fast entering e-commerce territory and are set to add several categories like fashion among other segments.
In the next two months, these platforms will add thousands more SKUs, bringing the total to over 10,000, as they observe users coming in to make regular transactions that propel platform commerce. According to those with knowledge of the plans, expanding beyond groceries and essentials will greatly expand the scope of fast commerce, affecting both Amazon and Flipkart, two well-known competitors in the e-commerce space.
Zepto and Blinkit have ventured into the fashion industry, partnering with clothing companies and vendors to list labels such as Mad Over Print, Adidas, Pepe Jeans, Jockey, Manyavar, and XYXX. Although both platforms’ entry into the garment market is still in its early phases, some with knowledge of the developments speculate that in specific use cases, the companies may end up becoming the preferred destinations for shoppers. Zepto, an apparel company based in Mumbai, markets its products to potential customers by emphasising the necessity for quick-fitting clothing.
“We will be expanding our assortment into new categories like apparel, beauty, home and kitchen as consumer demand for these products is increasing on our platform,” Zepto CEO Aadit Palicha said.
“We plan from the point of view of what the customer needs. On fashion, we’ve started some experiments but we don’t have a gameplan yet. Adidas started selling recently they came onboard as a brand,” Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa said.
