India’s quick commerce sector is poised for a nearly seven-fold expansion, with the market projected to reach $90 billion by FY2031, up from around $13 billion in FY2026, according to a report by Google and Redseer Strategy Consultants.
The report attributed the rapid growth to deeper penetration in metro households and a sharp rise in users across non-metro markets.
Monthly transacting users on quick commerce platforms are expected to cross 100 million nationwide by FY2031.
Metropolitan markets are projected to contribute nearly 60% of the incremental growth over the period. The share of quick commerce in metro retail spending could also increase substantially, rising from around 6% currently to 20-23 %by FY2031.
The sector is also expected to maintain strong momentum in the near term. Quick commerce sales are projected to grow by 110% year-on-year during the festive season, accounting for nearly 18% of total online festive spending.
However, the next phase of growth could require a shift in strategy.
According to the report, platforms will need to move beyond small, top-up grocery purchases and attract consumers making larger and more planned household purchases.
The report said platforms will need to offer wider product assortments, stronger guarantees on authenticity and replacements, and better product discovery to capture this growing demand.
Non-metro markets are expected to emerge as another major growth engine. The addressable market in these areas includes around 200 million online shoppers across more than 300 cities, with monthly transacting users projected to reach 55-60 million by FY2031.
“Quick commerce has built its scale around a clear proposition, which is getting a known product to a consumer in minutes. The path to a US $90 billion market is more complex because much of the remaining spend does not behave that way,” said Kushal Bhatnagar, Partner, Redseer Strategy Consultants.
The report concluded that sustained expansion will depend on platforms and brands tailoring their offerings to local consumer preferences, building greater trust and integrating online product discovery with faster local fulfilment.
