Happie Curves – a Gurugram-based plus-size innerwear and comfort clothing startup – has raised an angel funding of Rs. 20 lakh against a 30 per cent equity dilution.
The funding was raised from two startup-founders-cum-angel investors – Rikant Pittie, Co-Founder of EaseMyTrip and Aparna Thyagarajan, Co-Founder & Chief Product Officer of Shobitam Inc.
The equity funds were secured through participation in the ‘Indian Angels’ angel investment show on JioCinema. Previously bootstrapped, the startup plans to use the capital to grow its business, expand brand value, and reach a wider audience nationally, aspiring to be a leading plus-size/curvy brand in India.
Founder Sonal Somani, presenting on the show, received investment offers from Angels Rikant and Aparna. Accepting the offer without negotiation, she closed the deal, onboarding the two ‘Golden Angels’ who share her vision of inclusive clothing for the plus-size community.
Sonal commented, “I am thrilled to get the backing of two renowned Angels for my venture, whose investments in Happie Curves not just validates the huge promise and potential of my business idea, but also reaffirms and strengthens our belief that every woman deserves to be happy, and deserves to feel good from outside and within. And to enable that, diverse body type inclusive clothing is, of course, the way to go.”
Beyond the funding support, as Sonal mentioned, the experience and knowledge of these Angels will help the brand to learn valuable entrepreneurial lessons, grow, and be able to scale the brand rapidly and efficiently in the upcoming months and years.
The startup addresses the challenge of size unavailability in plus-size intimatewear, aiming to fill the gap left by existing Indian brands. Sonal, having faced these issues firsthand, launched Happie Curves in 2022, focusing on fashionable fits for plus-size women.
