YKK corporation, a leading manufacturer of zippers in India, has joined 100+ brands from around the world in becoming a signatory to the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action.
The charter is a call on the consciousness of various companies to proactively contribute in reducing their carbon footprint in the wake of rapid Climate Change.
All signatories to the charter have to abide by the terms and goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global temperature rise to less than 2°C above all pre-industrial levels.
Among several goals, the major focus lies on a 30 per cent reduction in producing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and striving for net-zero emissions by the year 2050.
To adhere to this commitment, YKK is planning to identify sources of greenhouse emissions and make business activities, including raw material procurement, production processes, logistics and supply chain, more sustainable in their approach.
Within next 2 years, the company will integrate science-based targets in all business processes, and aims to obtain the science-based target initiative certification.
Speaking on the development, Hiroaki Otani, President, YKK Corporation, said “Signing the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action signals to the world not only our continued commitment to sustainability in our product development and manufacturing processes, but also our desire to work together with other organisations in the industry to accelerate the reduction of GHG emissions.”
