In a sad incident, at least 9 people lost their lives in a blast that took place in a fabric godown in India’s leading textile and apparel manufacturing hub Ahmedabad. At the timing of writing this piece, rescue operations were still going on.
Around 24 fire tenders were used to douse the fire.
As per media reports, the fire took place due to a blast in the boiler. While 6 people were saved from fire, 5 of them are critically injured.
It is being also said that the fire first started in a nearby chemical unit.
The godown, an industrial unit, is situated in an industrial area near Torrent power station. When the incident took place, around 10 workers were working there. There were casualties as the roof of the building fell following the blast.
The police have registered a case and are investigating the incident and there has been no official statement about the reasons for the fire.
As per the sources, the godown has no fire safety system.
