With the goal of keeping education up to date with the most recent developments in the industry, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has introduced a thorough Model Curriculum for undergraduate degree programmes in Textile Engineering. With an emphasis on both academic understanding and real-world applications, this cutting-edge programme gives students the tools they need to succeed in the quickly changing textile business.
The programme incorporates speciality subjects including textile technology, sustainability, nanotechnology, smart textiles, and technical textiles with basic science and engineering courses. It provides a range of elective courses to further increase flexibility, allowing students to study cutting-edge topics like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the circular economy in the context of the textile industry.
This curriculum’s emphasis on internships and the growth of entrepreneurship is one of its main characteristics. The goal of the summer internship programme is to give students practical experience in real-world industrial settings so they may become knowledgeable about industry procedures and difficulties.
To provide even more customisation, universities are urged to include more electives, such as minor and microcredit possibilities. Additionally, students will be able to pursue 18–20 credit multidisciplinary specialisations.
“We strongly urge institutions across India to adopt this model curriculum at the earliest to ensure that our graduates are not just employable but also ready to lead and innovate in this rapidly evolving industry,” said AICTE Chairman Professor TG Sitharam, emphasising the significance of doing so. “Our goal is to establish India as a global leader in textile engineering by integrating education with industry demands and encouraging entrepreneurial abilities.”
