Under the name “Indian Institute of Handloom Technology,” the Indian Government established six technological institutes in handloom-heavy areas, including Salem, Varanasi, Guwahati, Jodhpur, Bargarh, and Fulia, in order to preserve the distinctive character of the handloom and meet the technical manpower needs of the handloom industry. All six of these institutions operate under the administrative direction of the Ministry of Textiles’ Office of the Development Commissioner (Handlooms), which is part of the Indian Government.
Giriraj Singh, the Union Textiles Minister, will officially open the newest of these institutes on 4th January 2025, in Fulia, Nadia, West Bengal along with Dr. Sukanta Majumdar, Union Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Development of North East Region and various other dignitaries.
A total of US $ 9.32 million (Rs. 75.95 crore) has been approved by the Indian Government to establish this brand-new, cutting-edge facility that would meet the demands of pupils. The structure is situated on a 5.38-acre property and was built with modern technologies.
Smart classrooms, a digital library, a computer lab, and several handloom and textile labs, including ones for textile testing, processing, weaving with electronic jacquard, general engineering, etc., are among the building’s contemporary amenities. Staff quarters and residential facilities are also available on this new campus. Separate dorm facilities for boys and females are also set up to guarantee student safety in a holistic learning environment.
As a centre of excellence in handloom and textile technology, the new campus will serve as a model learning environment and meet the educational needs of students from West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Sikkim. Because the institute provides excellent career possibilities, students from rural and semi-urban backgrounds will profit greatly. Additionally, the operation of this institute will enhance the standard of living for residents of Fulia and the surrounding areas.
