Working for a noble cause, Kolkata-based Sustainable Advancements is continuously growing. Offering sustainable products and creating awareness for CSR, the organisation was started last year by Dr. Nayan Mitra, Founder Director.
The company is now expecting good growth, as the first year has shown positive and encouraging results. The various platforms and initiatives by the company have proved to be fruitful and have generated significant demand for its products.
Alna-sustainable living is the responsible products arm of the company which offers designer tote bags and impact bags (including gift items).
“Some of my researches are based on cross-border anti-trafficking, children and prostitution. I witnessed that trafficking was a major issue in Kolkata while cases of children and prostitution were an eye-opener for me. This motivated me to do something and contribute towards solving this problem,” told Dr. Nayan, further adding that she is supporting the communities through various sustainable activities.
“Our efforts include workshops and awareness on these issues. Our products are made by rescued women from trafficking. We have to stop trafficking and the best way is to make the community stronger. So, we are offering them work and trying to increase their income. It motivates them to stay within their community,” she added.
Apart from that, Dr. Nayan who has taught and wrote about CSR, launched her edited book Mandated Corporate Social Responsibility: Evidence from India, with Co-editor Prof. Dr. René Schmidpeter, General Secretary, World Institute for Sustainability and Ethics (WISE) recently.
Her first book with the same co-editor Corporate Social Responsibility in India: Cases and Developments after the Legal Mandate was highly appreciated. “I urged buying community to support us so that we can support the suffering communities by giving them employment,” she concluded.
