Indian apparel exporters, especially SMEs, are facing the heat of cyber crime with regard to the payment received from their buyers. Team Apparel Resources got to know from confirmed sources about two such cases that took place recently.
What’s noteworthy is that the lack of knowledge and difficulties in coordination with buyers are further increasing the worries for these SMEs.
One of the Delhi-based exporters, who is struggling to recover his payment of US $ 9,500, told on the request of anonymity, “My e-mail was hacked and through the false e-mail id, my buyer was wrongly communicated to deposit payment in this particular account. My buyer did the same, and now when I came to know about this, I am co-ordinating with the buyer to rectify this.”
The exporter is in touch with the Cyber Crime Cell in Delhi and doesn’t wish to share much details as the issue is under process.
Another exporter of Delhi-NCR had similar experience, but he was comparatively lucky as he lost only small amount of money for samples.
Experts in this regard suggest that a good anti-virus software is a must to stop such crimes. Password management should also be of top priority and one should use the passphrase for safety.
Besides, the experts have recommended the SMEs to be cautious when any e-mail asks them to click on any link or attachment. Also, one should develop the habit of using virtual keyboard during financial transactions.
