The Union Textiles Minister Piyush Goyal will review the functioning of the Office of Textiles Commissioner and Cotton Corporation of India Ltd.
Upon taking charge as the Minister for Textiles, Piyush Goyal was in Mumbai to review the functioning of MoT’s offices in the city. Darshana Jardosh, Minister of State for Textiles also accompanied him.
The Ministers had a meeting with Textiles Commissioner Roop Rashi and other officials in this regard. The Minister also held separate meeting with Export Promotion Councils (EPCs) and Textiles Research Associations (TRAs). CCI is a Miniratna Public Sector Undertaking under the MoT.
Piyush Goyal insisted to develop financial instruments to provide backstopping to industry, which are not subsidy focused and enable stable credit flow from banks through such a guarantee.
The Minister urged the industry to work in way which can benefit cotton farmers, attract private investment and increase share of exports.
He said that textile can play a very important role in fulfilling PM Narendra Modi’s dream of doubling income, creating more jobs for youth and enabling every citizen to live a life of self-reliance and self-respect.
The Minister viewed that the applications received under subsidy-oriented schemes should be processed in a transparent manner using automation, keeping in view the broad objective of each scheme.
To accelerate the progress of TUF scheme, the Minister suggested that major issues must be outlined and deliberations with stakeholders, including banks, must be arranged to resolve issues.
He insisted that necessary mechanisms must also be devised so that personal contact of industry and department can be eliminated and process-free discretion is standardised. Special dispensation for MSME must be done for recorded reasons.
The Minister also emphasised the need for development of futuristic value-added products and its exhibition. He viewed the need for developing the technical textiles for use of wagon covers and optimal utilisation of National Technical Textiles Mission to leverage our strengths and address market requirements. Further, he urged Textile Research Associations (TRAs) to become self-sufficient instead of depending on Government grants.
