Re-strategizing its business plans especially for the Indian market, Yin Science & Technology, providing complete cutting room solutions and overhead hanger systems for optimizing production, and represented by Yimin Ni, Manager – South Asia explains, “Though we have been in India for about five years, it is only now that we have put together the right team including our India partner.” He adds, “India is among the top priority apparel manufacturing nation for Yin.”
The realization for Yin came when the company saw drop in business at home where the apparel manufacturing companies had started closing or downsizing due to increasing labour and other input costs.
Initially, 80 per cent of the company’s revenue was derived from sales made in the Chinese market, but now the domestic market share has reduced to 50 per cent, while the balance is from international sales.
The acceptance of its product internationally can also be gauged from the fact that till 2007 the company was manufacturing 120 cutters, but now it is manufacturing around 800 cutters every year. The company sold around 650 cutters all over the world last year.“Only recently the company installed a cutter in Surat and will shortly be installing a hanger system too with another cutter. We have started getting good response from the industry,” says Yimin Ni.
On being questioned why India now when so many other technology suppliers already have an established presence in India,Yimin was very spontaneous with his reaction, “Now is the time the industry needs highly automated systems to reduce manpower involvement and at the same time increase quality and productivity.”
Yin would be shortly opening its own offices in north and south of India to improve the service levels, “Our initial clients in India are very important to us as they would be the stepping stone for the second generation of clients,” adds Yimin. He was also very emphatic that unlike other service providers, maintenance and supply of spares are not a profit centre for the company – the companies are dependent on the number of machines it sells. “In the past four years we have accumulated spare parts comprising of 80 per cent of the machines, and the rest 20 per cent are the ones which don’t break down easily, like the motors, and cutting head, and few gears etc. while spares like screws and nuts are standard and can be procured from the local market,” said Yimin Ni.
To ensure the best technical support, the trained staff from China visit India, Pakistan and Bangladesh very frequently. “However, India is serviced by Yin, Japan because the expectation of the industry is high on quality and they are willing to pay for that price, but they want assurance that their ROI is going to come out on time,” says Yimin Ni.
[bleft]“We will show some future concepts of cutting in the form of a CNC cutting machine at the JIAM fair. This concept will overturn the traditional and even modern cutting techniques, using the most advanced technologies. A 3D body measurement system and an automatic spreading machine will also be showcased.” – Yimin Ni Manager – South Asia, Yin Science & Technology[/bleft]
With manufacturing units in Japan, China, Germany and R&D centres in Japan and Romania, Yimin points out that the company is a solution provider, as they have the ability to offer customized solutions for specific requirements. He further emphasized on continuously improving their products as per the suggestions and requirements of the customer, due to which their machines are now 20 per cent faster than the ones offered by them previously. Giving an example, he explained how the company supported a home textiles supplier in the Gurgaon-region of India to develop the largest cutting area on single machine. “Since the manufacturer needed a larger cutting area for larger panels, our Chairman, a passionate engineer, with the help of our team of experts, came up with a solution to develop a 3.5 m X 3 m cutting area which would not only increase the cutting speed but also be suitable for the kind of fabrics they are handling,” says a proud Yimin.
Focussing on catering to a wide array of industries Yimin Ni agreed to the fact that a lot of improvements have to be made in our machines regarding the cutting height, blade strength, cutting area and the cutting software, to encompass everyones requirement.
