Growing domestic apparel retail market is motivating apparel exporters and their associations to enter into this segment. To grab the opportunity in this sector, India Knit Fair Association (IKFA) and Knit Express (Nugarvour Express), Tirupur have come up with its Domestic Garment Trade Fair which is scheduled to take place from 5- 7 October at Tirupur. It is worth mentioning here that IIKF is organizing India International Knit Fair (IIKF) from decades to promote Tirupur’s apparel export at the global level. This is the first effort of the association with the focus on domestic market.
Sakthivel, Chairman, IKFA informed, “Almost 33 per cent of Tirupur’s knitwear production and about 20 per cent of its woven-garment production, both by volume, enter export Market. Overall about 25 to 30 per cent of the volume of its garment production goes into Export markets, leaving 75 per cent for domestic consumption. As challenges are increasing at the global level for apparel exporters, India has had to adopt innovative practices as a labour orient industry, the activity in production and marketing has now shifted to domestic markets (retail trade). India has occupied a remarkable position in global retail rankings, the country has high market potential, low economic risk, and moderate other risks.”
The various local association like SIMA, KNITMA, TEAMA, TEXPA, TIF, TEMATA, TMMSMA, TEXVALLEY & TEA, Tirupur Compacting Association, Tirupur Embroidery Association, Dyers Association are also supporting the event.
