
The Tamil Nadu Textile Sector Skill Council’s Chairman T Rajkumar, recently announced the launch of a skill building programme that will upgrade the skills of 1.5 lakh weavers and workers in the textile industry in the state.
Scheduled to take place at the upcoming Global Textile Expo starting in Coimbatore on January 27, the exhibition will take place over a period of three-days and will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, K Palaniswami.
According to a report issued by a top business daily, Rajkumar is quoted as saying, “The council would train 25,000 handloom weavers, 50,000 in the power loom sector, 25,000 in spinning mills, 15,000 in knitting and 10,000 workers in processing under different courses.”
The weavers and textile workers attending the course would be awarded a certificate which would further help them to obtain subsidised loans and the benefits of the Central Government’s scheme that offers 75 per cent financial assistance to set up looms to such workers.
