Indian e-commerce firm Snapdeal has teamed up with Ottonomy IO, a tech start-up known for building autonomous delivery robot fleets, to test robotic deliveries in the Delhi-NCR region.
The initiative is for facilitating last mile contactless delivery using robots that feature a first-of-its-kind in-built disinfector that sanitises the packet using ultraviolet rays on its way.
These robots run along sidewalk and local streets leveraging the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to navigate crowded areas for making faster deliveries.
Also, the robot uses technologies like machine learning, fuse data from 3D Lindar and cameras for understanding the external world.
The customer receives an alert and QR code once these robots arrive at the doorsteps.
Each customer is required to use the QR code to receive their packet since these robots are capable of carrying multiple orders.
For the experiment, these delivery robots were stationed at the entrance of residential society where the delivery agents scanned the QR code and placed the packet inside.
The robots were equipped with society map that was used for reaching out to the customers; also the in-built disinfector was being used to disinfect the packet on the way.
Furthermore, in case of any human assistance required these robots can be remotely monitored and controlled.
