
During the first two months of 2017, two of the major apparel exporters to US – China and Bangladesh witnessed downfall both in value and volume terms.
China, in January to February 2017 period, noted drop of 8.59 per cent in value-wise apparel exports to the US to US $ 4375.93 million as against US $ 4787.22 million in the same period last year.
Volume-wise, the country was down by 1.78 per cent to 1853.03 SME versus 1886.70 SME in the corresponding period last year.

Similarly, Bangladesh too started the year 2017 on a declining note in apparel exports to the US. Value-wise, the country’s apparel export by 5.66 per cent to US $ 927.13 million when compared with US $ 982.70 million in the same period of 2016.
Volume-wise, Bangladesh recorded a 0.63 per cent Y-o-Y drop to 343.70 SME as against 345.90 SME during the corresponding period of 2016.
