Following the resignation of Manish Tiwary last month, Amazon has appointed Samir Kumar as the new head of its India operations. Kumar, with over 25 years of experience at the company, played a key role in launching Amazon India in 2013. He will officially assume his new role on 1st October, 2024, while continuing to lead Amazon’s consumer businesses in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey.
Tiwary stepped down to pursue opportunities outside the company, ending his eight-year tenure at Amazon.
This leadership change occurs as Amazon is expanding rapidly in India, with plans to invest US $ 26 billion by 2030. However, the company faces challenges from a strict regulatory environment, restricting its operations to a marketplace model.
