Now, there is yet another reason to love the brand Zara. Fast fashion retailer has introduced a separate section for gender neutral clothing on its website, called ‘Ungendered’, featuring clothes modeled by both men and women. This section features T-shirts, tank tops, jeans, sweatshirts, joggers, and sweaters.

However, Zara is not the only brand featuring this section lately. In what may be seen as a reflection of global influences, a few other brands like Muttonhead,Target and Not equal have also started featuring a similar section. But Zara is possibly the first mainstream retailer to showcase apparels ignoring gender lines. Target has also recently announced its gender neutral section in its physical and online stores.
High fashion brands and celebrities are increasingly presenting ad campaigns and designs on the transgender community, with many cultures increasingly accepting more than two genders. Celebrities are also seen supporting this movement to break down gender definitions and norms in the eyes of the common man. This is also a generational influence, where millennials’ gender identity is not binary but a spectrum. Zara’s newest effort helps break down the idea that there are only two genders — and will hopefully encourage more mainstream brands to do the same.
