India’s leading fashion retail giant Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd. (ABFRL) has come up with its sustainability report 2020-2021 ReEarth 2.0.
ReEarth, a structured sustainability programme, has entered a new phase – Products are at the core of retailer’s 2025 sustainability strategy.
More on this, ABFRL has said that the company is focussing on design and development, and sustainability attributes of products with yearly targets and long-term.
The company says that its sustainability transition which began in FY20 – from ‘Process-led to Product-led’ – continues to focus on driving sustainability beyond ABFRL’s operations based on 3 key pillars: product design and development, customer centricity and supply chain.
It has now embarked on ABG Sustainability Journey 2.0 to focus on what the megatrends 2020-2030 demand from the private sector for the current ‘decade of action’ in mainstreaming of ESG in executive and operational decision-making.
It says that FY21 marks the successful achievement of Mission 2020 targets. The company has a target of 100 per cent sustainable packaging, while it could achieve 88 per cent.
Similarly it has target of 50 per cent products by volume to have at least one sustainable attribute, while it achieved 40 per cent in this regard.
The company has strategically shifted its missions towards a product-centric approach for the period 2020 to 2025. Its Product Life Cycle Approach is the fulcrum of its sustainability strategy now.
This approach is helping the company to identify key focus areas for improvement and develop interventions for each life cycle stage of the product, including upstream and downstream operations.
“Anchored by the three pillars of ABG’s sustainable business model: responsible stewardship, stakeholder engagement and future-proofing; and powered by our values of integrity, commitment, passion, seamlessness and speed, ABFRL continued its sustainability 2.0 journey,” says Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group.
With 22,000+ employees, the company has 3,212 stores in 850+cities, and is today India’s leading player in apparel manufacturing and retail.
