In honour of the 10th National Handloom Day, which was observed at Handloom Haat in Janpath on Saturday, the Textile Ministry is hosting an exhibition called “VIRAASAT” that will run for two weeks.
This handloom expo is being organised by the National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC), a division of the Textiles Ministry, the Ministry announced in a statement on Sunday.
A variety of activities are planned for the Handloom Haat during the event, including 75 stalls where handloom weavers and artisans will be able to directly sell their products; a carefully curated theme display featuring exquisite Indian handloom; workshops on natural dyes, Kasturi cotton, design, and exports; a live loom demonstration; Indian folk dances; and delectable regional cuisines.
According to the Textile Ministry, 35 lakh people are employed directly or indirectly by the Indian handloom industry, making it the second largest employer in the nation after agriculture.
In addition to emphasising the goods’ distinctiveness, the Indian government has introduced a number of handloom-related initiatives aimed at encouraging and giving a distinctive character to high-quality handloom products with zero flaws and zero environmental impact.
