Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that the upcoming state budget will give more emphasis and financial assistance to khadi and village industries. He was speaking at the ‘Khadi Utsav 2023’ in Bengaluru which was inaugurated by him.
He said that the textile industry is the second largest employer, especially in the rural areas and that more effort is being put in to create more opportunities and jobs in the khadi sector.
He added that the people working in the khadi industry will be educated on how to imbibe technological advances in the production and retail stages.
He further said that people should be educated on selling their products on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart and that appropriate steps in that direction should be taken by the concerned authorities.
As per the CM, priority in the budget would be given to the working class population and the Government has already taken steps to empower women working in the production sector by providing incentives worth upto Rs. 5 lakh.
He also said that the financial strength of the Khadi Gramodyog Institute will be enhanced by taking the necessary steps. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, he said that Gandhi gave importance to khadi as well. The CM asserted that the khadi industry should continue to be produced by the masses and not be turned into a large-scale manufacturing unit, so that maximum number of people continue to be employed.
