Japan-based sportswear label Asics has announced that it is aiming to enhance its product offerings across all categories in India, as the company foresees a brighter future in the country’s athleisure market.
It is important to add here that the Japanese brand forayed into the Indian market in partnership with Reliance Retail back in 2010 by signing a five-year long deal. However, since the term of the deal ended, the activewear brand is working on a standalone approach.
“The company looks to become an obvious choice in the segment, as it will work on enhancing its menswear and womenswear offerings in the country. We will continue to focus on technology and look to boost our presence across categories such as athleisure. Performance clothing will continue to be our priority.” – Rajat Khurana, Managing Director, Asics India
He further elucidated that sportswear segment is a Rs. 7,000 crore market which is primarily dominated by giants like Nike, Puma and Adidas.
Additionally, the sportswear brand will be targeting Tier I & II locations for its expansion spree and reportedly, plans to have 37 stores under its name by the end of current fiscal year and further introduce 15-16 outlets in the next fiscal.
The activewear label is also looking to collab with premium gyms in a bid to promote the brand among the fitness enthusiasts across India. The apparel and footwear brand is also looking to tap smaller cities such as Jalandhar, Coimbatore, Bhubaneshwar and others in future.
