Global apparel retailer Uniqlo (Fast Retailing Co., Ltd.) is providing urgent support that is worth approximately Rs. 22 crore (around US $ 3 million) for Covid-affected people in India.
The company will donate Rs. 10 crore to two highly respected non-profit organisations, GiveIndia and the Akshaya Patra Foundation. In addition, plans are underway to provide more than 600,000 UNIQLO AIRism masks to frontline workers.
Tadashi Yanai, Chairman, President and CEO, Fast Retailing said, “Fast Retailing is committed to helping the people of India, especially at this critical time. This is an emergency that requires global solidarity, and we hope that our contribution will support the immediate needs of those on the ground and help put the country on track to recovery. Our thoughts are with the people affected and the medical professionals working to provide care during these difficult times.”

Through GiveIndia, funds will be utilised for the immediate provision of medical equipment such as oxygen concentrators as well as to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in critical states, in addition to providing cash relief to the families of the deceased.
The donation to the Akshaya Patra Foundation will be used to provide cooked meals and dry ration supplies to low-income daily wage workers who are impacted by the surge of COVID-19.
Notably, UNIQLO AIRism masks by Fast Retailing will be distributed to frontline workers and those providing essential services.
With global sales of approximately 2.01 trillion yen for the 2020 fiscal year ending 31 August 2020 (US $ 19.06 billion), Fast Retailing is one of the world’s largest apparel retail companies, and Uniqlo is Japan’s leading specialty retailer.
