The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) has announced the much-awaited commencement of 32nd edition of the India Fashion Week for Spring Summer 2019. Spanning from October 10 to 13 later this year, the event has been cut short from five to four days and will take place at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Besides giving a platform for several new and established designers alike, new concepts are now being introduced by FDCI to keep up with the ever-changing dynamics of fashion industry. A B2C-themed initiative called the ‘Designer Stockroom’ will be a part of the fashion fiesta. Its sole aim is to provide designers the chance to sell their old and new stock. It will continue the conventional tradition of buyer sale for first four days and in addition has added a new stratum for a sale open to the public for the consequent two days- October 14 and 15.
“With fashion and its rigorous cycles, FDCI’s effort is to maximize the prowess of IFW and make it a trade event, yet keeping the sanctity of the showcase,” said FDCI President, Sunil Sethi.
Previously and commonly known as the Amazon India Fashion Week, the event has been restored to India Fashion Week as Amazon parted ways with FDCI this year. Amazon was the title sponsor of the event from the season of Autumn Winter 2015 till this year’s edition of AIFW Autumn Winter 2018.
Together, they introduced several new additions to the event. The most influential in their journey towards adaptability of technology for high fashion was the exclusive ‘See Now Buy Now’ concept for Indian Prêt collections presented by designers at Amazon India Fashion Week S/S ’18. Five capsule collections with six statement pieces each by the aforementioned designers were made instantly retailable off the runway at the recently launched The Designer Boutique at Amazon.in.
