The Indian state of Bihar is looking to give a makeover to its khadi board with an all-new building.
The Bihar State Khadi Gramodyog Board (BSKGB) is coming up with a new seven-storey premise near Gandhi Maidan in the capital city, Patna. The new complex is likely to be completed by July 2019.
Markedly, the first three stores of the upcoming building will be dedicated to retailing an array of khadi products like garments, accessories, beauty and other items. In addition, the structure will also house training and manufacturing units.
The BSKGB Chief Executive B.N. Prasad has stated that they will involve the grassroots people in the production of khadi items at the new building.
Furthermore, he also apprised that the centre would provide training in raw material processing, washing and dyeing, designing, cutting and stitching of khadi garments. Manufacturing processes apart, the training will be also given in other aspects such as branding, marketing and packaging of khadi garments.
It’s worth mentioning that the Bihar Government had approved Rs. 24 crores for the construction of new khadi board premises in the year 2016 as part of its efforts to promote khadi industry in the state. Interestingly, the new building will be located at the rear of the current one.
As per Prasad, the turnover of BSKGB is also expected to soar once the new building is ready. The turnover of the existing showroom was roughly Rs. 2 crores during 2016-17 and they are looking to triple the same once the showroom opens its doors at the new address.
