Among the handful of companies who have broken the barrier of national borders and made their presence global is China-based Xi’an Typical Industries proud owners of Typical and Vetron sewing machine brands. The company over the last few years has invested in R&D and also is acquiring technical know-how to bring in many new technologies and workstations. The quest for leading edge in R&D has led to the formation of the German subsidiary of the company in Kaiserslautern, employing German engineers and staff from famous European sewing machine manufacturers and working only on the R&D. Defining the key growth drivers of the company, Michel Chen, President, Typical International Corporation averred, “Our competitive edge, can be summed up in two words – Creativity and Technological Advantage. This has motivated us to continuously invest in the R&D, while keeping intact our 60 year old industry-centric knowledge and experience.”
Talking about the South Asian apparel manufacturing sector, Michel added, “Due to the rising labour costs in China and the decline in the domestic demands, added to that the crisis in major global economies, the market has been slow. Bangladesh is good for us, and talking about India, it is also stable, but I’m sure it will improve after the economy of the country stabilizes.” The company is also doing well in markets like Vietnam, Indonesia and Cambodia along with the South American markets of Brazil and Columbia. “The competition in these markets are very tight as some sewing machine brands based out of China and Japan, have been selling sewing machines at tremendously low prices, making the market very price-sensitive and difficult to penetrate at certain levels,” reasoned Michel.
With one of the biggest booths at the CISMA show, Typical setup a completely automated production line for apparel manufacturing, educating the visitors about the capabilities of Typical’s automatic machines and the ‘how to use’ them in the most efficient manner.“With the rising labour costs in China, the onus is upon us to educate the industry about the advantages of not only automatic machines but also of an automated manufacturing setup. As this is the way forward for apparel manufacturing industry,” added Li Guanghui, Chairman of Xi’an Typical Industries.
