In a bid to enhance its presence internationally, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has sent a shipment carrying Khadi products to Trinidad and Tobago, a small country in North America. The shipment that was dispatched last week, will be received by Indian High Commission of Trinidad and Tobago.
Notably, the shipment is carrying products such as, Khadi face towels in paper-board packing and 150 boxes of Khadi face towels in wooden box packing.
In a statement issued, the High Commission said that last month a meeting was held between Bishwadip Dey, Indian High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago and Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC, where the former marked out that the population of the region is home to a considerable number of Indian citizens.
The KVIC Chairman elucidated that keeping in mind the large number of Indian origin population and Prime Minister’s vision to popularise Khadi overseas, the Khadi body decided to felicitate over 100 elderly Indians aged between 90 to 110 years on September 8, by providing them Khadi angvastram.
KVIC also announced that it will take part in a nine-day long Diwali festival fair, later this year in Trinidad and Tobago, that will help them mark out possible buyers and spread awareness about Khadi among the people in the country.
Recently, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Suresh Prabhu had also said that the Union Government is looking to promote Khadi textile at international level as it sees Khadi as a platform to enhance India’s economy.
Notably, sales of KVIC products in the country had registered a significant surge to Rs. 59,098 crores in 2017-18 as compared to Rs. 52,138 crores in the previous fiscal year. KVIC is now eyeing to tap the global markets for future growth.
